Summary
Armand remembered when he praying and those eyes came on him like this. Armand had feared what those eyes saw when they looked at him. Armand felt like they saw right through him, through his little charade. And he had been right.
He knew what Daniel thought of him. Liar. In their fight, he accused Armand of acting without thought, without reason, but Armand had a reason for everything he did. It was not his fault that only he ever saw the walls closing in.
“I thought he was dead.”
Armand spoke of him in the past tense only. “Me too.” He left it there. He gave no words to the rolling waves of emotion in his head. Shock and awe, devastation, happiness, and everything in between. The waves drowned him. He could not believe it, even as he stood here in warning.
“He asked me to kill you,” Armand told Daniel. His shoulders stiffened, and a tightness emanated from his core. “He’s serious.”
“Are you going to?” Daniel asked. “Kill me, that is.”
Show imagination, had been the command from all those years ago, it burned into him like a brand. “Do you think I would?”
“I wouldn't know.” Daniel never did this. He never backed down. He always gave his opinions, his speculation.
