Summary
So no, Thorin is not grieving the love of his life. He is just grieving his Bilbo. Unexplainable and incomprehensible. Bilbo.
His days are spent in greyscale, for Bilbo was his color. He has no more song in his heart, his last note was sung to Bilbo. Thorin is cold, because the last warmth he had faded away when Bilbo’s life did. Holding his hand.
Thorin cannot move on from Bilbo. It is an impossibility. So he will resign himself to spend the rest of his life living for Bilbo’s memory and making sure that his nephews have as easy of a life as he can give them.
And then a small green eyed comet crashed into his mountainside, blowing his greyscale to bits.

Bilbo dies at the hands of Azog after saving not only Thorin's life, but Fili and Kili's as well. Gutted from his death, Thorin wanders through his life with only two objectives:
1) make sure his nephews get to live happy lives
2) honor Bilbo well enough to deserve to be laid next to him in deathWhich sounds pretty depressing.
Good thing Kalla crashes into his life and shakes things up. After all, what are daughters for?
