“Jin Zixuan,” Wei Wuxian complains that weekend when they’re stood around Wen Qing’s kitchen table with pictures of their friends like they’re detectives trying to solve a case (Wei Wuxian brought the pictures for that moment and that moment only). “Really?”
“He’s a friend,” Wen Qing defends.
“Of who?”
“Mianmian. Yanli.” She’s counting people on her fingers. Wei Wuxian thinks she’d make a great teacher. Or a lawyer. “Lan Wangji. Wouldn’t you like someone to sit and do sudoku puzzles with him as you splash about in the water? Jin Zixuan asks how they’re coming along. Wangji hasn’t filled in a single box because he’s secretly been staring at you from behind his sunglasses.”
Wei Wuxian goes pink, pushes at Wen Qing’s arm. “Shut uppppp,” he whines. “Lan Zhan and I are best friends. The only reason he’d be watching me is to make sure I don’t drown or something.”
