Summary
After The Doctor saved Ianto Jones from the 456 alien virus, things were not all that straight forward. The Doctor was forced to take Ianto nine years into Jack's future, to 2018. But after a close encounter on a future world, little did The Doctor and Ianto realize that a biochip had been implanted into Ianto's mind to make him want to kill Jack. Over and over. Until he could hand the man he loved over to a race of beings called the Timeless who want nothing more than to become immortal. And they plan on using Jack to achieve their ends.
Unable to stay in Cardiff at Torchwood when he's constantly distracted by the urge to kill his boss and lover, Ianto and The Doctor set out on a mission to get the biochip removed from Ianto's brain, promising Jack "no detours." Except apparently the TARDIS has other ideas. Arriving on a dead ship, parked on a dead planet, that quite frankly smells like death, The Doctor and Ianto are stuck until they figure out what brought the TARDIS here and why.

As he descends deeper into the now-ruined and destroyed theater, he discovers what horrible things occurred backstage without his knowledge during his runtime as the ringmaster of all the shows.
