Celebrindal, curious in a place that offers no mercy to mistakes, had pressed her hand against the chilling ice. It may have been a trick of the light, but she thought in that moment. When the weary face of her reflection stared back at her silently, another pair unfamiliar eyes had slithered over and replaced hers.
She had blinked then, leaned closer in disbelief. By the time she noticed the web like cracks blooming over the ice. It had been too late to stop her fall.
