The black dark pit that’s part of his face is still the same, and there are a couple more scars, but he can’t help but find there’s something so off about him now, he just can’t put his finger on it. Like it’s the same man but at the same time, not.
The eye is not the only thing that’s missing now, and the bloodred steel of his prosthetic feels hard and cold even through his tattered clothes. He wants to reach out for his face, and wonders if the other man feels and looks at him the same way, seeing a familiar stranger, detached from the shared, lingering past that they both had been robbed of.

Big Boss rarely spoke, but when he did, Kaz knew from experience that even he could not compete with him when it came to eloquence and the confidence he was able to inspire with his sheer presence alone. It was time. Kaz trailed behind him, his steps long and sweeping, before separating to stand aside with Ocelot, hands clasped behind his back—it was Big Boss’s moment of triumph, not his, so it was his turn to address the citizens of Outer Heaven, who cheered enthusiastically when Big Boss took the podium. It took them a moment to quieten down, but they did so without having to be told—when the Boss spoke, everybody listened, and soaked up his presence and words greedily like they were air. Kaz looked at his profile, gaze focused, broad stance, head raised high, exuding pride and dignity worthy of a king.
“All of you that stand here today,” he finally began, voice lofty and so booming through the mic that a shiver ran down Kaz’s spine, “All of you have been chosen.”

A practiced routine that still didn't reduce the damage, or fear experienced when a catastrophe occured: the trick was to keep breathing while accepting your fate as a prisoner to the whims of nature, shikata ga nai, they always said, it cannot be helped.
And when Japan lost not to nature, after withstanding its forces for so many centuries, but to man, he made the decision that he was going to be a victim no longer, and left to find the strength that was rightfully his to claim.

You are the best thing that happened to me (but this is not accurate)
One day, Kaveh discovers a number on his phone called "write when it's bad." And this has consequences. A stupid story where Kaveh tries to have a phone romance, tries not to strangle al-Haytham's secretary, and tries not to completely go crazy in principle.
“I will not leave this closet until the documents are signed. And I'm going to sit on this floor, because you, such a goat, specially clean the chairs for visitors before I come - and yes, I know this - and on this fucking floor I will catch some kind of infection, I will die in agony, and then I will return to hang over your soul for the rest of your life, groaning!
Al-Haytham sipped his coffee imperturbably. “Is this somehow different from my six working days a week?”
“Fuck you,” Kaveh replied, and slammed the door so that the paintings on the walls shook.
“Maybe he’ll even make it to the lecture,” al-Haytham muttered to his back and returned to the documents.

once Kave dreamed of building palaces - and that everyone would pronounce his name with admiration at dusk. and then al-haytam happened, and much more, but the kaveh stopped dreaming of palaces. or not. maybe just forgot how
"I'm sorry," Kaveh said in a low voice. "Stupid of me to say."
“You often like to do this,” al-Haytham replied instantly. "It's OK."
Kaveh immediately wanted to hit him with something heavy. He experienced drama inside, worried about other people's feelings, and al-Haytham remained al-Haytham and continued to be rude at any convenient and uncomfortable moments of life.

The difference between a labyrinth and a maze is that a labyrinth has one path but a maze has many.
Alhaitham is lying in front of him, breathing shallowly. Kaveh cannot tell if he is asleep or unconscious, but it probably doesn’t matter. He is lying in their bed or he is sinking into a pond filled with lotuses or he is on display like a statue on a bed of marble or he is trapped in the roots of Irminsul – or he is in all of these places at once because this is in Kaveh’s mind, and his head is bursting with the ways that Alhaitham could be lying before him.
Kaveh touches Alhaitham, not with his hands but with his eyes. He takes in the shape of Alhaitham’s body piece by piece, from the tips of his fingers up the slope of his arm towards the curve of his face. “Vision happens in the brain, not in the eyes,” he remembers Alhaitham telling him at some point in the past. It feels like the words are echoing around him, whispers layering over each other.
The wire that attaches to Alhaitham’s earpiece is pulsating; something fluorescent is flowing out of it. Kaveh is strangely convinced that Alhaitham’s mind is coming out of his head and that substance is full of temptation.

“Huh?” Kaveh lets out a confused sound, and the sound of his quill against paper finally stops. “How peculiar of you. Have you finally taken an interest in my career, ‘o Great Scribe? Or is this just your yearly good deed coming from the bottom of your deep, black heart?”
“As if. You’re an idiot,” Al Haitham scoffs, rolling his eyes and scooting over, lowering himself further on Kaveh’s lap and angling his hips outwards, making sure to press his crotch flush against Kaveh’s. He tenses under him, body freezing, finally getting with the program. A shiver runs down Al Haitham’s spine. “Do you get it now? I’ll help you clear your mind.”
“Oh,” Kaveh lets out a deep breath, his grip around Al Haitham’s waist tightening. Goosebumps paint his skin in response, and it’s quite embarrassing, really, but Al Haitham can feel himself stirring in his underwear just from this. “Quite bold of you, don’t you think? I’m trying to work.”
Irritation crawls up his spine. “And I’m trying to get fucked. What’s more important?"
