Ronin strides purposefully across the street, the night air thick with the hum of distant voices and the buzz of street lights flickering overhead. The ground beneath his feet feels firm and familiar as his foot presses against the cool pavement. It's a small, ordinary moment, and he knows it will pass without notice.
Then the sound comes – tires screeching against the road, a howl of metal on asphalt, the kind of noise he can't ignore. A flash of headlights blinds Ronin for a split second, the car's body lurching out of the shadows like a beast in the dark. He freezes, eyes wide, body locked in a moment of disbelief. The screeching gets louder, the vehicle accelerating faster, and suddenly it's too close. Too fast.
