The phone goes blank as the call ends, and Sigma’s legs collapse underneath him. He crashes to his hands and knees, fingers curling on the hardwood as he hyperventilates. How? How could this happen? He was so careful. Even Atsushi doesn’t know his real name, all his papers have his new identity, god, he’s not even on the same continent anymore.
He must’ve gotten careless. He’d gotten so comfortable in his safe, normal life with Atsushi, he must’ve relaxed too much. Stopped watching over his shoulder at every moment. For a wonderful, peaceful moment, he let himself believe he could just be Sigma Ivanov: florist, boyfriend, and experienced shower-singer.
But Albert Camus’ sins will haunt him forever.
