I swear that, this time, it's serendipity
Fuyumi is a 22, almost 23-year-old, elementary teacher with a colourful group of friends and a debilitating obsession with soap operas. At first glance, the pinnacle of mundanity and normalcy. However, her relationship with her family contest this assumption greatly, alongside the lingering loneliness and feeling of regret that festers at the bottom of her heart.
Hawks is also a 22, almost 23-year-old. The renowned Number 2 Hero, adored by society for his rapid rise and success. His only true friend is also a Pro-Hero, never having any time away from the lifestyle. Quick-witted and often labelled too fast for his own good, Hawks has lived a life under a persona. To him, his whole life is a lie, and the shallow relationships he shares with people don't help that assessment.
Their paths unexpectedly cross at a bar. Maybe something can spark from this small moment of serendipity.
Inspired by the song Serendipity by Laufey, this was originally an one-shot that spiralled into something way greater than what it was intended to be, with a dramatic overarching plot.

Summary
Fuyumi enters the entryway and pauses at the sight of Shouto slowly and carefully easing the door shut.
“Sho?” she says, forehead crinkling in confusion. “What are you doing h–”
She cuts off at Shouto’s sudden wince, her little brother gripping his head in pain almost as soon as she’d started speaking. She steps closer, worry and guilt taking over as she takes in every inch of him to catalogue what’s wrong.
Shouto lets out a breath and slowly straitens up. His hand drops from his face and he turns to face her barely an inch at a time like he’s trying not to jostle his head too much.
“Sho?” she breathes out again, this time her voice as soft and low as she can get it. “Are you okay?”
It’s a stupid question but thankfully Shouto takes the direction she’s offered and answers honestly instead of trying to feed her a bullshit “I’m fine” like Natsuo would.
“Hurts,” he grits out, forehead creasing again as he does.

Summary
Fuyumi is ecstatic when Shouto invites his friends from school over for dinner. After a couple of visits, she learns Bakugou isn’t all prickles and thorns. And it doesn’t take long for Fuyumi to figure out that Bakugou has a crush on her. It’s hard to ignore his rosy cheeks and his hesitant words when she gives him attention.
One afternoon, after a tension-filled moment between them, Fuyumi realizes they have gotten too close. She takes steps to ensure it doesn't happen again. In the process, Bakugou's heart is broken, and he no longer comes to the Todorokis' house to visit.
Years later, chance encounters have Fuyumi running into Bakugou and now she is the one stumbling over her words and breaking out in a hot flush. My, how the tables have turned.

Fuyumi frowned at the dull cream colored file sitting on the darkly colored carpet. The stack of papers wobbled in her arms as she made for the thick file. "Need a hand?" a voice casually said, picking up the untidy folder before her.
He met her at eye level (but he was still taller than her, merely looking down since he was a head taller) and smiled kindly. "Oh, thanks!" Fuyumi says nervously.
"No problem." he says, holding the file loosely in one hand. The sunlight that was streaming in through the windows almost matched his golden hair. The warm hue was a contrast to his huge red wings that stretched around them like a wall of soft feathers.

She heads further in the tunnel, trying to ignore the cameras on the wall whirling towards her. A shiver goes down her spine at the feeling of being watched. A screen comes on with that thing again.
"Pardon our dust friend!" It sits criss-cross applesauce on the screen with its arms on its ankles.

“What did I do?” she asks into the silence, as Rumi’s hand sneaks its way onto her bare thigh and her thumb rubs into supple flesh.
“Nothin’,” Rumi mutters, her ears flicking up. Her tail twitches a little, which is how Fuyumi knows she’s lying. She knew her best friend.
“There’s obviously something,” Fuyumi sighs, “Please, let me fix it.”
Rumi stares at her long and hard, eyes going from her eyes to her lips to her nose then back to her eyes. “You mean it?” she looked almost upset with her, an unappealing mix of anger and disbelief on her face. Fuyumi wanted to wipe that away. She wanted the familiar wide smile and sparkling eyes that she'd grown so accustomed to over the months.
“Of course,” Fuyumi isn’t sure what she’d do if Rumi stayed mad at her.
What she wasn’t expecting was for Rumi to kiss her.
Or, Todoroki Fuyumi meets Usagiyama Rumi a couple years back, and realizes there are so many compelling things about the woman she's too afraid to dive into because it may just reveal something about herself she doesn't want to show.
