When Altair had sat down, alone in the silent and empty depths of his library, he knew that his time had come at long last. His body felt heavy, and he was so very tired. As his eyes drifted shut, he let out his final breath and greeted the oncoming dark as one would an old friend.
Which made it even more jarring when his eyes snapped open to see a dim predawn sky.

Summary
Formerly named ‘Guardian Angel Out Of Time’
----Desmond just watched at first.
It had taken days to realise where he was, or rather, when he was. Desmond was half convinced he was in a coma or a long-lasting Bleeding episode at first. But it was not the Bleeding Effect, nor did Desmond seem to be in another coma.
He was not in the Animus, but in real world Renaissance Florence.
By the time Desmond finally seemed to snap out of his daze, he stumbled upon the Piazza della Signoria where a large crowd was gathered.
He recognised this scene, though the last time he saw it, he had arrived on the opposite side of the piazza. The last time he had been watching through the eyes of Ezio.
Watching the crowd move, Desmond found himself stopping a nearby woman, “Scusi, signora, but would you happen to know today's date?”
“December 29th.”
Desmond’s eyes were wide in disbelief. “And the year?”
“1476.”
December 29th, 1476.
The day the Auditore family was executed.
—-Or Desmond proves to be increasingly impulsive and Isu Tech seems to hold a grudge against him.

“Do you need help?”
The avian shrugs.
Dick, who is standing behind him, sets his hand on Jason’s shoulder, making the younger boy jump at the sudden touch. Dick jumps, too, and retracts his hand with a soft, “Sorry.”
Then he turns to the avian. “What is your name?”
“I’m Tim,” The boy’s throat is scratchy, and his voice is quiet.
Dick grins, “I’m Dick. That is Jason. And that is Damian.”
Damian huffs, and he crosses his arms, “Can we get going? The men are going to come back,” he rudely steps onto the wagon, making the whole thing bounce as he walks next to and past Tim.
...
Dick pulls Jason aside, “Let’s take Tim with us.”Jason gapes.
“Take? As in..?”
The older boy smiles, “When I make it home, we’ll have all kinds of stuff to care for all four of us. I know it. Bruce will–”
Jason shakes his head, “The king, even if he is your father, won’t just take in hybrids like that!”
Dick tilts his head before shaking the thoughts free, “Of course he will! Why won’t he?”
Dick is more sheltered than Jason assumed.
