Summary
They’re just wrapping up their discussion when there’s a sound loud enough they can hear it through the window that overlooks the main floor, a cross between a thwack and a thump, followed by raised voices.
Nop heads to the window, looking out over the sparse crowd, and spots the source at the bar.
“Hey, isn’t he one of Kinn’s?”
Interest piqued, Vegas heads over, stopping next to Nop to look down where he’s pointing.
A man in black has another larger man held face down on the bar, keeping him in place with one arm across his shoulders and the other holding the pinned man’s arm wrenched up behind his back. He can already see some of the club’s bouncers heading that way, but in the meantime the smaller man tosses his head, trying to get his hair out of his eyes, and Vegas gets a glimpse of his face.
“I think he is, yeah. Come on.”

He doesn't mean to find it.
Vegas isn't even snooping, just looking for the spare phone charger he knows Pete keeps somewhere in the bedroom. So when he opens one of the nightstand drawers on Pete's side and finds a smallish notepad with pages flipped back and held in place by a pen, he doesn't think much of it as he shifts it out of the way to check underneath. It's when he's setting it back in place that he catches some of the words, purely by accident, and freezes, one hand on the edge of the drawer, the other barely touching the notepad.

He's an idiot.
He’s not wrong, but he's an idiot.
Vegas can't help it, though, sometimes. He knows he's smarter than a lot of people, better at planning, tactics, strategy, definitely more so than his Pa gives him credit for. So when he's in a meeting, listening to people planning a job in a way that's going to pretty much guarantee failure, he can't stop himself from saying something.
The worst part is he should really know better. It's not like he doesn't know how his Pa operates, what he thinks of Vegas in general and sometimes more specifically. But there's still this part of him that thinks that if he can just do the right thing, the correct combination of tasks, that his Pa will change, will love him like he should. He knows he's a fool for thinking so- people like his Pa don't change, and nothing he does is going to fix that.
Hope is a stubborn, hard-to-kill bastard, though.

He's trying to remain calm, but when they duct tape all the fingers on his left hand except his pinky together then down to the table surface, he has a sinking feeling he knows where this is going. It's near-pointless, but he can't help but struggle, pull at the strapping just in case there's any kind of give, any way to get loose-
There isn't.
A woman approaches from the side, wearing some sort of apron and safety glasses, a small sledge hammer in one hand, and a large, wickedly-sharp looking chisel in the other. She looks up and over him, speaking to someone he can't easily see.
"Make sure the iron is ready, we don't want him bleeding out-"
He immediately tries to protest, to argue, but the gag prevents any of the words from making it out clearly, only the sounds escaping. The woman glances down at him, almost bored, like she's working some sort of office job or something.
"I can understand your distress, however if it's within your power to keep still, I'd highly recommend it. I imagine you'd like this to be as clean as possible-"
