Summary
The thing about habitat conservation was that it focussed, primarily, on time. To most people it was a study of nature and animals and how to ensure ecological populations thrived, and that was true to an extent. But at the heart of it all was the ever-present tick of the clock, the forward momentum of the universe, the steady increase in entropy as years passed by. She spent every day of her life following trajectories and mapping changes, one eye on the past and one on the future, so she ought to have seen this moment coming. And yet, somehow, she just… hadn’t.

“Does it still hurt?”, came Shouto’s deep, soft voice and broke the silence between them.
“No. Recovery Girl did a good job.”, Mizuki replied and ran her fingers absentmindedly over her arm.
“That’s good.”
“Yeah.”, she breathed and met his gaze. “We kind of match now.”
She held up her arm with a smile and pointed towards his face. For a second, Shouto watched her with a bewildered look and Mizuki suddenly felt very stupid for voicing her impromptu thoughts out loud.
Then, something like a snort escaped him. Almost like an actual laugh. The corners of his mouth twitched upwards into a small smile and his eyes danced with amusement. He looked so different, she couldn’t help it.
Mizuki stared.
And her stomach did a weird flip, not unpleasant but unfamiliar.

Change can be difficult. It can be tough and straining, overpowering like a tidal wave. So when Mizuki Akai joined Class 1-A a little later than planned, she expected it to be hard. She didn't expect to find villains and past ghosts on the doorstep, to find new and revive old friendships and to accidentally fall in love along the way.
