Each fighting against their own internalized dread, Jax and Pomni are faced with challenges unlike anything they've seen in their time at the circus. Can they escape their personal hells, or will they lose themselves to the whims of the demented ringmaster and their guilt?
⚠️There is physical abuse and emotional manipulation in this fic! If that makes you uncomfortable I don't recommend you read it.
This piece is angsty, and yes it's very out of character! On the plus side there are no depictions of gore in it, but there's not going to be a happy ending.

“Stupid.” He heard someone say, but it was so far off that he could barely hear it. Whoever it was sounded grumpy, but he didn’t really care all that much. It wasn’t the person he loved, that was for sure. The voice was too rough and hateful. Although, he thinks him and Pomni had a fight that might make her voice hateful. Did they? Maybe? It’s too hard to think. He just wanted to drift.
“I’m not stupiddddd..” he said, before giggling again. His voice didn’t sound like his; it didn’t have the usual bite, the sarcasm that was always present. That mask had gone along with his thoughts, and he just felt joy and the void. He curled up on the beanbag, giggling to himself and kicking his feet like he was reading a romance novel he had read much too many times to be surprised at the plot twists.
