Alternate AU where, before the pertification, Gen was adopted by Stan and Xeno. He grows up under their watch and forms a close bond with them until, at the age of 18, he decides to run away to Japan to start a new life on his own.

“That’s not normal…” he whispered. “Not normal at all.”Panic hit him fast. He snatched his phone and started typing into Google as quickly as his fingers would move: “white tips on hair at 15?” “sudden hair change?” “is this an infection?” “am I dying!?”
Most of the answers said it wasn’t harmful, just a condition that some people have. That should have calmed him down—but it didn’t. He still felt embarrassed, almost ashamed, like having it made him stand out in the wrong way.

Summary
Xeno was 24 years old when his sister passed away in an accident and he was given full custody of his 2 year old nephew Gen. He was used to writing research papers up until the late night hours for grad school and setting reminders for himself to eat, not having to provide for and take care of a baby.
If you had asked him what his future plans were a year prior, raising a toddler and falling for his best friend would have been the last two things he would have ever considered in his foreseeable future.

You’ll stare at him, your chest will tighten, your mind will race. You’ll want to argue, want to tell him you don’t need him to say that. But a small, stubborn part of you will want to believe it. A part that’s too exhausted, too raw to fight.

“Are you scared, Gen?”
His answer will come too quickly.
“No, Senku-chan. I’m not scared.”
