There in front of the counter, David is completely covered in cake, licking his nose with complete satisfaction.
“Oh my god. Oh my god, DAVID, NO!” His first instinct is to run in his direction, panic rising in his chest. He bolts into the kitchen, he needs to stop David before he eats any more. But in his way, he steps straight into the mess on the floor, slipping and falling hard on his backside.
“Oh shit. David, come here. Right now!” His voice is a mix of anger and sheer panic. But deep down, he’s worried, really worried. The mess on the floor is bad enough, but what if David’s eaten a huge amount of chocolate? God, no. Please not that.
David trots happily over to him, still licking his nose, oblivious to the chaos he’s just caused. He comes to a stop beside Henry, then starts licking his hands, tail wagging.
“David, what the hell did you do?!” Henry gasps, still struggling to get to his feet. “This is not how we celebrate birthdays, you little menace.”
