Whenever Silver was alone in the galley, trying to scrounge together something he could call a meal, the cat appeared. She would jump up on the counter and nudge at his hands, or slink around his feet, threatening to trip him.
“Stupid cat,” he groused as he fed her scraps. “Perfectly good mice to eat. You could do the smart thing and avoid goddamn pirates altogether. They’re dangerous, you know. Is it really worth it?”
She looked at him like he was the one being ridiculous, and set about eating a chicken gizzard he should have put in the soup.

Anne was out with Max and Eleanor. His knight in shining armor, his Nurse Ratchett, nowhere to be found. He supposed he could wait another day, presuming she spent the night out, more and more lesbians gravitating to her side as the night went on like the great sapphic star that she was.
But Jack was already feeling the effects of the hormonal withdrawal, and it would only get worse the longer he waited. This left him with two options:
One: he’d suck it up and do it himself. This method had a roughly 25% chance of success, as the last time he’d tried it he’d barely gotten the safety cap off the needle before passing out.
Two: he’d get Charles to do it.
Which would of course be the easiest, except for the small, tiny matter. Teeny really. Just the tiniest little issue that, of course. He just. He wasn’t out to Charles.

Gansey is ungrounded these days.
He likes that word - appreciates its strength, respects the way that it hangs and halts conversation, unmoored, when he dares to say it out loud. Ungrounded. It’s good - it works. Before he found it - before Henry whispered it softly in the passenger seat of the Pig at 3 AM with Blue snoring softly in the backseat on a night where they felt blown out of their bodies - he was nothing. Gansey is a lot of nothing these days.
