Summary
Tommy wished his family had let him explain. Had at least entertained the evidence that he had against the fact that he had poisoned one of his best friends, who was also his brother’s mentee. But they hadn’t. Instead, he had to face Techno’s anger, Wilbur’s scorn, and his father’s disappointment. And behind them, the general, the crown prince, and the emperor, stood Dream. The knight looked smug, and it was all Tommy needed to confirm for himself that Dream was at fault. But there was nothing that he could do to convince his family, at least not until Ranboo woke from the coma that he seemingly had fallen into. And that was if he woke up at all.

He doesn't technically have to be on the battlefield as much as he is, he knows this. Many of the high ranking officials never are— but it's different for him.
Wilbur Soot is the face of the revolution. Of L'Manburg. If he isn't fighting for it, why should anyone else?
No, Quackity doesn't have to fight. Eret doesn’t have to fight. Neither do Fundy and Tubbo, though they find their way to the battlefield more often than not as well.
But Wilbur has to fight. No matter what. The hope of his people rests on his shoulders. He has more than just his own life to uphold now.
And he's learned first hand just how fragile lives can be.
