    When Luffy finally approaches Pirate Hunter Roronoa Zoro, it isn’t with any fanfare. There’s no fireworks or drums, no noticeable shift in the planet’s tilt when their eyes meet. Hell, Zoro doesn’t even seem happy to see him in the first place despite their destinies being intertwined, even by Luffy’s own hand.

    And yet, when the swordsman looks up, his narrowed eyes somewhere between slate and amber, Luffy has to pause because this one – this one is special.

    Luffy rolled his eyes. “I already knew you’re a bounty hunter. Dadan told me the first night you were here. But I also know about the stuff that actually matters, and you’re not bad like they say you are.”

    Zoro has never cared whether people thought he was bad, or murderous, or bloodthirsty. He knew who he was, what he was going to do, and who he was doing all of this for.

    But this one time. Just this one time. It was nice to know that someone didn’t think the worst of him. Even if the worst was true.
