“What’s your name?” Luthen turns a considering look on the boy, whose own eyes are sidled sideways keeping watch on where Cassian’s disappeared. “Cassian won’t tell us.”
Points for boldness, but, “Don’t you suppose there’s a reason for it?”
“I won’t say.”
It’s not wholly devoid of bravado, Luthen thinks, as he circles around and pulls out the chair opposite. Settles in and faces this boy he’s seen from a distance keeping watch and then two years later hurling a homemade bomb at the Imperial line on Rix Road. There’s rage there, and grief – but so too is there resolve, purpose.
“Your father said everything,” Luthen points out, carefully studying the way he absorbs that fact.
