Summary
They say that Sozin's line are inhuman monsters.
That's not what Chief Hakoda sees when he fishes a sickly thirteen-year-old Fire Prince out of the ocean. Then the boy knocks out his guard and forces Hakoda to chase him up the main mast to stop him from setting the ship on fire, and Prince Zuko proves exactly how much of a monster he is.
Which isn't actually that much. Volume-wise.

Summary
This was just Hakoda’s luck, on the run with three children he’d vowed to himself to take to safety—wherever that may be—and they just happened to run into the Dragon of the West.
Unsheathing the knife—his only weapon, of course he had nothing but a measly knife while facing the Dragon of the West—Hakoda stepped forward to stand between the children and the enemy. Like he should have when they’d come to the South Pole and threatened his family.
Never give up without a fight. Not that he needed the blade’s inscription to tell him that.
After escaping from the Western Air Temple, Hakoda is lost in a forest with three Earth Kingdom kids. Thirsty, tired, and struggling to cope with the effects of his prison stay, the last thing he needs is getting kidnapped by an ancient secret society.
But Iroh’s plans to have the Avatar kill the Fire Lord are outrageous, and Hakoda takes issue. Now he has to put up with his mother’s ex and a gloomy firebender while parenting three wayward children, rescuing his crew from prison, and defeating Ozai. Which would be enough to deal with even if the wounds of the past didn’t have a habit of bleeding into the present.

Summary
[Hakoda was not sure what he expected to find in this slowly approaching Fire Nation sailboat, but what he did find was certainly very far down on the list: A young boy, perhaps younger than his own son, with a bandage covering his eye, shaking violently in a fever-induced delirium.
“What does this mean?” Bato said, using the dull end of his spear to poke the boy's shoulder.
“Mom,” The boy weakly cried.
“I have no idea,” Hakoda said, feeling every bit as horrified as he always did when he learned something new about the Fire Nation.]
Or,
With Iroh wandering the globe after the death of his son, some of the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender get off to a late start— and get a little tangled along the way.
