    Jaskier grumbles, shifting in his bedroll as he lingers on the verge of wakefulness and peaceful sleep.

    “Jaskier.”

    He registers this call of his name more than the last, his awareness brushing against his surroundings. He can feel it’s late— no light seeps through his eyelids, and the air is cool on his skin where it’s exposed, uncovered by his bedroll. He rolls over, where Geralt is sleeping behind him, with a whine. “What?”

    He opens his eyes to find Geralt is tucked into his furs facing Jaskier. The witcher’s eyes are closed, but his expression is tense, eyebrows furrowed lightly.

    “Geralt?” Jaskier breathes, leaning up on one elbow.
