“Mm. Fine,” she replies, leaning against the dresser to steady herself. “Little parasite’s shaking her maracas on my bladder again.”
She doesn’t know if it’s actually a girl or not. She didn’t want to know at the time, no matter how much people pushed her. It would’ve made it real - too real. She wasn’t ready for it yet. But now, with the piles of tiny clothes on her bed and heavy weight on her hips reminding her that in just a few weeks, she’s going to have a baby, she’s been forced to make it real. And strangely, ‘real’ gets a little easier to picture every day.
So when people started predicting that she was having a girl, she ran with it. It was fun to think about sometimes. A daughter, like her. Like her sister. Not that it would make much difference. She’s pretty sure she’ll manage to screw them up either way.

Jinx is sober, reconnecting with her sister and about to have a baby. Could be better. Could be a lot worse.
