    Summary

"Of all the ridiculous, risky things I expect of you, gambler," he said, slowly and deliberately, "bringing a trained assassin to your own home — one that attempted to kill you mere hours ago, no less — was decidedly not on the list of things I ever anticipated."

The tone was scathing, harsh and reproachful, but it did little to faze the smaller man, whose smile never faltered. "One of these days I'm going to teach you that to gamble well means being able to anticipate any outcome, no matter how ridiculous or impossible it might seem."

While on their first field assignment since Penacony, Aventurine and Ratio are surprised to encounter a vengeful Avgin mercenary. As soon as she speaks, however, a name and face from the past spring instantly to Aventurine's mind — that of his supposedly dead sister, Kadriya. In what proves to be the biggest gamble of his life, he strikes a deal with her to convince her to come back to Pier Point with him, even though he can't be sure of her actual identity. What follows is a tense and chaotic ride that none of them expected, filled with mystery, secrets, distrust… and regret.

    Summary

His eyes travelled around the familiar features–just older, but the same; thick eyebrows, long eyelashes, and that tooth, peeking over his lip even though his mouth was closed. Till’s chest heaved, and he pulled off his gloves so that his shaking hands could cradle the face, thumbing underneath tired eyes.

This had to be a dream, and he was going to wake up soon–any second now. But time only stretched on, and he was still there in that downpour, hovered over his unconscious body.

“Ivan?” Till squeaked out–a name he hadn’t said aloud in nine years. To anyone else he was always that guy, that brat, that… feeling I didn’t understand until you were gone.

    ---

Or: While scavenging in the wreckage of a plane crash, Till clashes with a Guard, and comes face to face with Ivan. The real Ivan; the man he thought died in an act of sacrifice, and proceeded to haunt him for years afterwards.

    Summary

Something throbs under Till’s thumb. A beat passes. It does it again. Till looks down, confused, and realizes that his hand is gripping Ivan’s wrist, nails digging into the pale skin, his thumb jabbed right into the pulse point.

Ivan’s heart beats slowly. Ivan breathes slowly. Ivan blinks slowly, his giant eyes tilted up. When they make eye contact, Ivan’s pulse skips a beat. The only thought running through Till’s head is: huh?

“Hello,” Ivan says. “You went somewhere.”

“Uh,” Till manages. Ivan’s pulse thrums under his fingers. Why is it so soothing? Every beat of Ivan’s heart lifts a bit of the weight off Till’s chest. Is that normal?

(or: somewhere along the way, Ivan and Till "fall in love," or something like that. This changes nothing that matters, but they end up okay.)

    Summary

Till looks up through messy words to meet eyes with Ivan. Finally, he lifts his pencil and turns over the notepad.

    Why did you do it?

Ivan reads it for a second too long. Contemplating. Unsure. “You had more going for you than I did. It was a death of convenience. The best outcome. That’s all.”

Till lets silence take over them for a moment, something prickling at the center of his chest. He starts writing again.

    Bullshit.

or: Nearly two years after being saved from the fire, Till runs into someone on a rebel mission with the same face of the person who has done nothing but haunt him. For the life of him, he can't let himself believe that Ivan is alive. Not while he's still hallucinating a version of him that keeps him from being able to speak.

    Summary

“Till!” His head practically snaps up in surprise when he makes it to the school (which he walked to, by the way. A middle school he had no prior memories in, now suddenly able know the exact path to it. Totally not disturbing at all), spotting Ivan.

Ivan, the second, optional main character. But his presence isn’t what surprises him, no it’s the fact that he knows his name. Has everything about the villain in this god-forsaken world been replaced with his information?

    -

When Till gets shot straight into the game ‘Alien Stage’, known for its horror gameplay and dating sim aspects, he surprisingly does not panic. He devises a plan (Which is mostly him trying to survive) but Ivan, the second playable character, seems to keep disturbing said plan— as well as the actions of the asshole he replaced.

Or: Till gets isekai’d into the universe of his favorite game and then goes through several mental breakdowns trying to get home
