"I," Geralt grits his teeth, not stopping to look at him with that stupid threatening look, "I was distracted."
Jaskier raises both eyebrows, blinking dramatically.
"By you!" Geralt continues, raising slightly his voice, "I told you you would have been a distraction!"They need to find Sirens for a contract. Jaskier is thrilled. Geralt is not. And then Jaskier is jealous because fucking Witcher can't just stop falling for their voices but not his! Geralt is just very, very tired of this. Love awaits! (maybe)

It was definitely a bad idea to approach this clearing. The man impaled on a spike was probably warning enough for most. But Jaskier was running low on material and hey, if he was about to be devoured by whatever monster he was about to find, it felt like a fairly appropriate way to go. Killed in the line of duty and whatnot.
There’s another man skewered much in the same way, what he thinks might be a horse, and-

Maybe it wouldn't be that surprising (we are talking about the travelling bard after all), if Jaskier didn't look and behave so strange. How else can you describe approaching the witcher without making any indication to what has happened on the top of a certain mountain and simply paying him for killing a monster?

Geralt scrabbled around the table, throwing things aside after checking them, plates, platters, goblets, until one goblet he picked up smelled different to the rest. Strongly of wine, yes, but there was something else, something sharp that didn’t belong. He picked up more goblets, sniffing each and confirming what he was beginning to suspect. He then checked the jugs on the table until he came across the flagon Nathaniel had been using. The same sharp smell came from the wine within.
“This wine,” he presented the physician with the flagon, “It’s been poisoned.”
“The Lord’s personal supply?” the physician twitched, “Then why are all these others affected?”
“He was sharing it around,” Geralt remembered, “He –“
Geralt stopped dead. His blood ran cold.
“G-Geralt?” a small voice sounded behind him.
Geralt turned slowly, painfully, dread pitting his stomach.
“I, uh, I drank that wine,” Jaskier paled, eyes wide, “I drank it.”

He folded himself into the shadows of Kaer Morhen. Everything in his life had been a dream until Geralt made him wake up. He should be grateful. He might have gone on being a burden for the rest of his life. At least now he had a chance to still be something to Geralt, even if it was only a functional role. But it was better than an entire life without him - especially since he had discovered fae blood ran through his veins. He had many, many years ahead of him. The idea of having to live out the rest of his existence scorned by Geralt was unbearable. So, he did what he had to do..."
Jaskier becomes convinced that working himself to death is the only way to get Geralt's approval, until Geralt begins to notice that something is wrong...
