Summary
“Well yeah,” Venti said as he walked into the office. “There’s demonic magic and its counterpart, celestial. Magic can be drawn from the earth itself— and spirits, but that usually delves into stuff like necromancy, which is a big no-no in every single faction out there. And then of course there’s witches and magical creatures like… A DRAGON?!”
The blood drained from Venti’s face as it struck him that those feelings from earlier had not simply been, “just nerves.” His whole body shook as he stared at the creature on the office floor, barely managing to pull himself together to put the coffee tray down on his desk before rushing forward and kneeling. He froze, unsure of what to do. Ganyu and Yanfei were yelling something but it was all fuzz in Venti’s ears. The only sense in his body still working, it seemed, were his olfactory organs.
It smelled like a witch.

Zhongli wanted to fix him.
Barbatos laughed nervously, getting to his feet and flexing his wings to keep his balance. “Well yeah. I’m here to do your bidding, and this sort of transaction is kind of a one-night deal.” He placed his hands on his hips. “Unless you have some wild supernatural stamina, humans don’t really last too long.”
“Except that the contract between us explicitly states that you will be on this plane and bound to me until copulation has ended.” Zhongli picked up the book, finger running under the line. “If we don’t copulate, then you will simply stay.”

Barbatos scrunched his nose, still frowning.
Sighing, Morax leaned forward, his breath hot on the anemo archon’s neck. “There will be a yaksha general here at all times as well as either I, Guizhong, or one of the adepti. The only thing that can harm the child are nightmares, so we will do what we can to bring them sweet dreams.”
Barbatos was quiet for a long time after that, letting Morax straighten pins and remove broken quills. A few of the nicer ones he set aside to be turned into writing instruments. It was when he was brushing off stray down and flakes of skin did the other speak, just as quiet as before.
“Okay.”
___The middle of the Archon War, which monsters and scheming backstabbing gods in every corner of the continent, was not the best time and place to let a child enter the world. Barbatos and Morax find this out the hard way.
AKA Barbatos and Morax are Xiao's biological parents and canon events still happen.

“Zhongli, why did you do this to me?” Venti whined, hanging his head over the toilet as Zhongli worked on pinning his braids back. “I knew this baby would be a freak of nature! What were we thinking? An elemental being and some dragon-qilin thing making a baby? Who does that?”

Summary
The moment Venti comes to, he’s assaulted with too much input. His ears ring and the light is too bright, causing him to groan and wince at the heaviness pervading his body. It feels as though his skull has been actively cleaved open, every nerve simultaneously overwhelmed yet dulled by what he knew to be too much alcohol in his system. It wouldn’t be the first time he had…overindulged, but this hangover puts all of his others to shame by far.
The only thing was, he doesn’t remember going to bed drunk. Or falling asleep for that matter.

He had watched Morax dream before. He watched the weight in his brow soften, the lines of war fade from his mouth. There had been mornings where neither of them spoke for hours—just shared the silence, the kind that made the world feel still.
Wouldn’t he have remembered that?
Barbatos closed his eyes.
Maybe fate was unwinding in different directions.
