She's a good mother. She's never laid a hand upon her own children, and she likes to believe she's never even considered it. She doesn't even think she's hit Abaddon until the redness in his skin becomes impossible to ignore; it's a stark comparison to the rest of his deathly pale skin. It reminds her of blood splattered on snow.

We know the hotel used to be an asylum. Abaddon is an unruly demon trapped in a child's body who likely terrorized the town for centuries (and still does). But if it's the 1950s, say, and a very odd child is causing a lot of chaos, and there's an insane asylum near by...
