Summary

You see, she expected Mafuyu to be the same as always.
And it was like that, for the most part.
But there was also the unfamiliar Mafuyu. The Mafuyu that kissed her goodbye when leaving for school, the Mafuyu that gently fixed the blanket around her shoulders when she was cold, the Mafuyu that whispered comforting words and soothing melodies when Kanade was losing herself once again in the flashing lights of the monitor and her hands were too numb to keep moving. The Mafuyu who cleaned for her, and cooked for her, and made her soothing baths and pulled her closer into her lap while she slept.

The part that hurt Kanade the most wasn't her mother's absense. It wasn't her father's hospitalisation, either.
It was knowing that even though Kanade blamed herself, her father wasn't a good parent to begin with. Someone who was bound to become a lifeless shell of himself.
Thousands of truths drown Kanade in her sorrow. Still, Mafuyu is there to hold Kanade in the pit of the ocean.
