Eren Jaeger is a caregiver at Shiganshina Daycare who helps watch Levi’s daughter Mikasa on the weekdays when her father goes to work. As far as Levi was concerned, Eren was a good kid. A proper university student with high grades, an endearing personality, and a bright future ahead of him. Eren always greeted him with a bright smile at the daycare with every drop off and pick up.
To Levi, Eren was nothing more, nothing less than the friendly neighborhood caregiver.

You don’t want to take your clothes off?” Tongue darting out, he ran it deliberately over the studs lining Eren's lobe before releasing him, feeling more than a little smug with how wide his eyes had gone. “But if you think that’s un-sexy—”
“No! I—no.”
Levi smirked down at him, still refusing to touch. “Good. So let’s try that again, shall we?” He let the pads of his fingertips barely brush Eren’s stomach, feeling his abdomen tense. “Can I take your clothes off, Eren?”
“Yes. Yes, god, please.”
“Great. Later. Lesson two—”

Eren grinned, his green eyes glinting with something that made Levi’s stomach do a weird flip. “Don’t worry, I’m good at taming wild things.” He paused, only now realizing how his words sounded. “I mean, like, plants,” he added nervously, trying to backtrack. It was almost cute how he clearly spoke without thinking.
Levi’s eyebrow twitched. ‘Was this brat flirting?’ he thought. Because, well, it’s not like he’d mind. “Yeah, I bet you’re real good at that,” he said, his tone dry but his lips betraying a faint smirk. “With the plants, of course.” He leaned against the doorframe, noticing a faint pink flush spread across the younger man’s cheeks. Eren shot him a small, smug smile. This conversation was definitely not about gardening anymore.
Or, Eren gets hired to take care of Levi’s garden, but he ends up taking care of the garden’s owner instead.

Eren spoke. Not loud. Not sure. The words felt pried from a rusted cage inside his chest. “I… shouldn’t have come.”
“Yes, you shouldn’t,” Levi said simply. “But here you are. So I ask you again, Eren Jaeger… why”
“I thought that maybe… you,”
Levi knew, all at once—and not quite at all—what lived at the end of Eren's unfinished line. His heart ached both for himself and for Jaeger, or maybe for the sheer unfairness of honesty turned burden.
There was a time when Levi would have acknowledged the underlying meaning with a curt nod.
I know. I see you. I feel it too. But we are both bound to things greater than this. Take solace in knowing. It’s what I can offer.
One a privilege—lost. The other, a gift returned.

Two weeks pass and he is surprised when the stranger messages him again.
From that point on there is a constant back-and-forth between them and Levi finds himself letting his guard down just a little. However there is one thing he can't stop obsessing over; Will the kid react badly when Levi reveals just how much older he is?
