Summary
He was exhausted, and aching, but he forced himself to put a grin on his face and pretend that it wasn't getting to him. Jimmy would just worry if he knew how much Scott was hurting, and he'd rather avoid that if possible. He knew that his boyfriends had been unsure about Scott joining Wild Life, more than aware of how much the chaos made his chronic pain flare up, but he refused to be stopped by his pain. He knew that they were just trying to show that they cared, but it just annoyed him to have them doubt his abilities and tell him not to join in with fun just because of his stupid code.

“He’s been suicidal since Empires, Pearl.”
“Wha- no, no, no. He can’t have been! I was there!” She protested, eyes wide.
“He was almost permanently dead.” Joel looked back at Pearl’s face. Silent tears were dripping down her face as she stared straight at him, eyes portraying her disbelief and heartbreak.
Joel still had one more thing to admit, even if it would hurt her, she deserved to know.
“I think Empires was a coverup, a convenient excuse to die.”
Or the life series winners confront Scott about his self-sacrificing, while Joel becoming a new winner might be the final push they need.
Also, this was originally written because I wanted Scott angst and halfway turned into a Joel fic about him winning Wild life. Also, Evo lore and Empires cameo as a treat <3.
