But then he noticed – alongside how his stitches were more visible in proper light – that the cat looked familiar. Clear grey eyes, black fur, a messy mop of a haircut that made their head appear even softer. The glasses above that plastic nose.
They looked like Akira.
The revelation had his face go red, no control over it as he gently squeezed the cat, unable to put them down. In this proper light, in their uniform and cleanly put together… they looked like Akira. -

He knew prolonged stress wasn’t healthy, but he didn’t know how to fix it for Kenji. He’d never seen him stressed like this, so he studied every prominent article that he could find. He quickly learned humans could be stressed out by almost anything – changes in environment, not eating right, not enough sleep, emotional turmoil, lack of socializing, and lack of physical touch.
The last one caught his eye. He knew Kenji was very social, rarely a quiet moment when they were together, but he couldn’t recall him ever touching anyone. From what he read, humans needed touch for both bonding and relieving stressors… maybe that was it. Multiple days of grueling study, everyone locked away in their own rooms, and most of their compatriots at school were doing the same…
Makoto nodded to himself, feet quietly tapping as he moved upstairs to charge. He had a plan, but for now they all needed to rest.
