    Summary

“I never said you needed protecting,” he said, more firmly now. “I worry. That’s different.”

    Her jaw tightened. “Is it?”

Bob’s eyes blazed for a moment, stepping closer. Yelena had to crane her head up to look at him, her arms folded defensively over her chest. She could feel the heat radiating off of him. He was very close.

“I’m starting to think that you want a reason to fight with me,” Bob said after a quiet moment.

She wanted to say something - anything - but the words were jammed in her throat. And now, looking at him, she suddenly didn’t know how to explain herself. Not to this version of Bob, the one who stood taller now, steadier, more confident, who flew into hurricanes like it was nothing. After months of training and super hero-ing, he was stronger, clearer, sure of himself.

    And she… wasn’t.

Bob didn’t press. He just stood there in silence, rain-drenched, patient, watching her with gentle, steady eyes. The glow in them had dimmed, fading slowly back to brown, like the storm inside him was calming too.

Finally, she said, quieter, “I don’t want to fight with you.”

“I don’t want to fight with you either.” His voice was soft and sad.

    Summary

In 1994, Bob Reynolds’ parents shuttle him off to stay with his aunt in Ohio for the summer. It’s a daunting agenda; he’s never even met Aunt Carol. But it becomes a lot more palatable once he meets one of Aunt Carol’s neighbors – Yelena, fearless and fascinating and a fast friend.

    AND

In 2016, Yelena Belova is newly freed from the Red Room’s hold on her, and desperate for something familiar and comforting to anchor her. Those years in Ohio were the first – and the last – time she felt that. Maybe, maybe she can be selfish, and try to track down the boy she’d once known, oh so long ago. That is, if he even remembers her.

Six misfits, one Alaskan king bed. The rest of the Watchtower is uninhabitable. This is Yelena Belova's life now. What could possibly go wrong?

    Oh, and Bob. Great.

*Blame the pancake hug. The image of Yelena and Bob clinging to each other like koalas post-shame room sparked this whole ridiculous sleepover scenario.

“I believe you,” she said, stern and steady. A soft sigh crept through her lips, nearly a gasp. Almost a quivering breath, like she searched for stability. “I am sorry, Bob. I do not mean to—to blame you for something. Accuse you.”

Bob settled. Weight slid off of his shoulders and he ducked his chin, his breath a bit unsteady, his heart pounding so loudly that he could feel it in his kneecaps. Pressure cinched his stomach tight still and he swallowed the sour taste of citric acid.

“I only meant it as an opportunity,” she murmured.

    Summary

To shake some of the embarrassment, Yelena decided to blame it on John fucking Walker. Dumb as bricks John who was a decent person if you bothered to get to know him better, and who didn't deserve the shit she's been giving him for months now, was the only reason she even considered it in the first place.

That, and the thick, overread medical report lying lifelessly on her coffee table, taunting her with technicalities and filled to the brim with treason, making a mockery of the one certainty she has relied on her entire life: having children is not within Yelena Belova's capabilities.

But given the circunstances, maybe she can, and perhaps she wants to.

    And asks Bob for it.
