Andrew Graves was a good brother, father, whatever the fuck was most fitting at the moment. He raised Ashley like his own, shouldered the consequences she should have rightfully deserved and kept her content by any means — even if that meant indulging her every whim. She sensed this as an opening. She crashed down onto his already shattered spine with bone-snapping force, reducing what remained to a grotesque slurry of blood, pulp and splintered fragments too mangled to recognize. “Mom said you’d help me with everything!” Ashley says, every damn time. Selfish, entitled, like the piece of shit she is.
He resents her for it.
But resentment never outweighs love. That’s the part that stings the most. And for quite some time, that love has started to rot. It clings to his bones like mold, feeding off his guilt, mutating into something he doesn't want to acknowledge. Something darker. It threads through the cracks in him, quiet and insidious at first, until it coats everything. A slow suffocation that reshapes the way he looks at her, the way he feels her in the room even when she’s not touching him. It festers where shame lives, drawing strength from every suppressed thought, every half-swallowed urge.

Ashley gestures towards the TV screen, with a wave of her hand, “I mean — all that. The moaning. The panting and all that squirming. Movies makes it seem like fucking yourself is the best thing ever but every time I’ve tried has been pretty lame. Nothing like that—,” she nods towards the female character who is currently having a massive orgasm, “—has ever happened.”
Andrew stares at her.

And then stares some more for good measure.
He’s pretty sure she just broke his brain, because he can’t really think of anything but the insane shit that had just come out of her mouth so casually. Is she totally socially inept? Didn’t she know she isn’t supposed to bring up how she masturbated to her fucking brother?
“That’s nice,” is what Andrew should say before swiftly changing the subject like a steering wheel being jerked abruptly to avoid a crash. He shouldn’t laugh or try to joke, as that might encourage her to continue. He should just turn the entire fucking movie off and go to bed, in fact.
“You’ve never come before?” He opts for the head-on collision instead.
