The man aiming the rifle at him was definitely an alpha — taller, broader, and wrapped in enough winter gear to survive the apocalypse twice. His face was mostly hidden behind the weapon, but Louis could make out a strong jaw, a set mouth, and the kind of posture that screamed trained.
Louis raised his hands lazily, fingers trembling more from cold than fear. “If you’re here to shoot me, can you at least make it quick? I’m kind of over today.”
“What?” the voice asked, confused.
“I said,” Louis repeated, voice wobbling as his teeth chattered, “please do it fast, darling. I’m freezing, I’m starving, and I’m pretty sure I’m seeing two of you.”

Harry was just thinking it was time to call it a night when Zayn nudged his side.
“What’s that?” Harry asked, voice low.
Zayn motioned across the bar. “You’ve got a shadow.”
Harry’s eyebrows furrowed. He vaguely noticed the feeling of eyes digging into him, but thought nothing of it. Following Zayn’s gaze, Harry turned to look across the busy bar, toward the front door.
There, dressed in human clothes and standing on two legs, was Louis.
Before Harry could react, he blinked, and the mermaid was gone. Out of the front door, and into the night.
Harry’s hand clenched around his glass of ale. Their eyes only met briefly. Still, the look in Louis’ gaze was undeniable.
Louis looked at Harry with pure hatred in his eyes.
