Summary
Eddie repeats his affirmations in the mirror every morning, while he shaves the stubble from his jaw.
My name is Eddie Diaz. I am autistic. I am gay. I am a good dad and I am a good person. I deserve to be happy and I deserve to feel good.
(It's taken him a long to be able to say it outside of his head. It's taken him an even longer time to say it and believe it.)

Summary
While in El Paso after running away from home to his grandparents, Chris stews in his anger towards his dad. However, the room he is staying in used to be Eddie’s and Chris stumbles across his high school diary. While he starts reading it to see if his dad ever wrote down anything embarrassing, it causes him to realize how different his childhood has been form Eddie’s, that his family isn’t what he always thought it had been. And that the bridge between him and Eddie isn’t as burnt and the damage not as permanent as Eddie fears.
AKA: a view of season 8A from Chris’s perspective where he starts to get a look behind the curtain of the generational trauma his family holds and finds some grace and forgiveness for Eddie along the way.

Summary
eddie's not entirely sure he believes in getting help, at least not for himself. there's only so much healing to be had for a body torn apart by bullets, for a mind that's only half there, for a man who's been leaving pieces of himself behind all his life with nothing to take their place.
except, as it turns out, falling apart happens in increments, and healing does, too: it happens when you gnaw a hole in your lip trying to keep quiet only to have the words escape; when you realize that the ghost you've been seeing out of the corner of your eye is yourself; when your best friend smiles, and you allow it to take your breath away.
it happens through the smallest of things: bird feeders, and cacti, and pasta shapes.
meanwhile, the world goes on.
(or: the entity often affectionately referred to as the unrepression fic.)

Summary
Evan Buckley-Nash has been many things over his life. But in the beginning, he was born to be Daniel Buckley’s saviour. He's never really reckoned with that fact – until he has to deal with his birth parents for the first time in almost two decades.
–
Or, Miscommunication abounds again when the Buckleys come to town as Maddie juggles the demands of both her blood and found family, Buck spirals as he is forced to confront his long-buried trauma regarding his brother’s death (while trying to keep the whole trauma thing a secret) and also insists the visit has to be kept a secret from his (adopted) dad, Hen, Chim and Eddie are trying desperately to be supportive while also attempting to understand the truth of the Buckley siblings’ past, Bobby is hopelessly confused about what in the world is happening with his son and his crew, and of course let’s not forget that Eddie still has that little black box hidden in the back of his sock drawer just waiting for the perfect moment…
In other words, things are definitely on course to blow up like a former-perfume factory on fire.
Oh, and there are flashbacks
(Or, to put it simply: it’s Evan Buckley-Nash Begins.)

Summary
Buck thought he was just chaperoning a group of third graders on a routine firehouse tour; show the kids the engine, try on helmets, go home. Simple enough.
Then he meets Eddie Díaz. Calm, confident, and effortlessly present. Eddie has a way of making chaos seem manageable and making Buck suddenly aware of just how unprepared he is for him.
