Summary
“Woah,” Will whispers to himself incredulously, laughing a little under his breath as he shuffles through the pages of the letter again. He can’t help but admire the smooth, off-white stationery, its pleasant weight in his hands. A serious-looking “MJW” watermark adorns the top of each page, totally at odds with the entertaining missive and its author’s garbled cursive. Will laughs quietly to himself again. What sixteen-year-old boy on earth has monogrammed stationery?
Michael J. Wheeler, apparently. Where did Max find this guy?
Mike Wheeler is insecure, even by normal teenage standards. So when his friend, Max, connects him with her old friend from California, he's surprised by how easily they get along. But as the weeks wear on, their letters grow increasingly personal, and they make plans to embark on a week-long trip, Mike can't let go of one inconvenient, anxiety-inducing thought: What if he wants to be more than friends?

Summary
The hammering heart subsides, as the sore, tired feeling comes back. Sniffing, as his eyes refill with tears, he rests back down on the bed, in a halted movement. He curls in on himself, as close to disappearing as he can, before reaching for the pillow, and pressing it over his head. The darkness, the quietness, collaborates with the hollowness of his mind, creating a peaceful, yet isolated concoction. Still, images flash through his mind in shock-waves.
The urge to go knock on Mike, or El, or Max’s door is barely resistible, as if an invisible string is pulling at him, but he’s gotten used to the string. He’s learned to ignore the sad, but hopeful pull at the back of his mind. The last time he gave into it, he was too weak to stamp down the innate impulse to make his problems someone else’s, and he’s not about to repeat that.
Or: The Party are in college now, and the gates have been closed for around a year. Will feels the need to hide how much he's struggling with the memories, and trauma. Mike notices. He always does. Throughout the year, their relationship strengthens, as Will learns accepting help isn't selfish, and Mike learns not to listen to people who make him feel like shit.
