“Do those patterns go everywhere?”
Mira had meant it as a joke; it felt like something Zoey would say, a way to break the strange, brewing tension collecting between them. She’s teasing, obviously, tone kept light as she traces across the pattern curling down Rumi’s bicep. Zoey, on Rumi’s other side, laughs.
Rumi flushes pink, patterns flashing, but the little gasp she makes isn’t embarrassed, and it goes straight to Mira’s gut. She leans forward, like she’s going to kiss Mira, like she’s not already pretty much in Mira’s lap.
“Why don’t you check yourself?” Rumi asks, and she’s sliding a hand up Mira’s exposed thigh.
Mira, internally, goes fuck. Zoey just says it out loud.
