“And go where?” Dan Heng’s voice is thick in his own throat. “This is my room. I’m not leaving until Kafka arrives. Later you will need her Spirit Whisper.”

When Dan Heng first sees Kafka walk through the portal carrying a small form tucked into her arms with an ornate red-ribboned coat and kitty ears, his first thought is that she’s kidnapped a baby and played dress up with it, putting it in Ren’s clothes and cat accessories for some bizarre reason.
Mini carry-size Ren with cat ears & tail (inspired by linked twitter art) because An Artifact Did It. Dan Heng ends up being his reluctant caretaker...

Summary
Slowly, the tip of his sword lowers when he finally realizes he’d been targeting the air, not the beast’s head.
It lowers, and lowers, and lowers until he’s pointing it directly at the forehead of a man almost a head shorter than him. He even has to tip his head up slightly to meet his gaze. Ren's eyes flicker between the impassive expression on the man’s face, the unusual streak of red beneath his eye, and the furry ears atop his head—which twitch the second his gaze falls on them, as if they had a life of their own.
His brows furrow deeply, his lip curls with distaste.
It all feels… like a very bad joke.
“You’re…”
“The beast? The wolf?” the wolf (?) finishes for him, eyebrows raising, and he’s starting to look only a little amused, masked beneath the serene demeanor he carries. “You could say that.”
Or; tasked with a mission to deliver papers to the village at the other side of the forest, Ren ends up getting more than he bargained for when he bumps into quite the character during his travels. Essentially, a Little Red Riding Hood (ish) au
