This is usually the moment in the dream when Jayce realizes he’s loved Viktor for a long time. He doesn’t say anything about that, though. Instead he says, We did it, we did it, Viktor, and Viktor says, Catch me. Jayce smiles so wide it aches.
Maybe that’s not exactly how it happened. Maybe Jayce doesn’t care.
Tonight he dreams about That Night again. In this version, he already knows that Viktor is going to die—he stares at his limbs moving like he’s underwater, at his big, bright smile, and thinks I don’t want you to end up where you’re going. “Well yeah, but I didn’t think… I didn’t know if you’re that kind of boyfriend,” said Atsumu.
Sakusa raised an eyebrow at him. He didn’t seem to understand what Atsumu meant, and that wasn’t surprising. Atsumu wasn’t sure what he meant, either.
After a moment, Sakusa said, “How many kinds of boyfriends are there?”
Atsumu winced. “Well, uh… two kinds, I guess. The kind you take home to your family and the kind you don’t.”
Sakusa seemed to consider that. “Which kind am I?”
Atsumu didn’t want to talk about this He wondered if he could fake a heart attack to get out of the conversation. “I dunno. That’s up to you, I guess.”
