Summary
" The thing was, König wanted to confess, to say that he was the one leaving little trinkets around, to ask Horangi to read to him, to ask what he was writing down, all of it. There’s just one problem. Horangi had a boyfriend. In truth, König couldn’t care less. He’d say it too. But he wasn't sure Horangi would ever agree to anything so scandalous. But he also knew that he was the only one to give Horangi gifts, to look out for him and support him properly. His boyfriend—the word alone was enough to make König want to vomit—was just some negligent everyday man. Some sort of salaryman off base and nearby.
König refused to learn—ahem, “couldn’t remember”— the boyfriend’s name. He deemed the man irrelevant after all. Kevin would be a placeholder name for now. Kevin wasn’t nearly as attentive as he should have been, granted, salary-men are notoriously busy but so are colonels. Legally speaking, romancing your fellow soldier was against the rules but again, König couldn't care less. His heart yearns for someone who’s already taken and so he would just have to take them twice over."
Or
Horangi has a boyfriend and König believed that he was the better option in every which way.
