Summary
“It’s been five years. Five years! That you have been ignoring me. And now you just what? Want me to tell you where I am? You’re just here now? What the fuck is wrong with you?”
Will flinched, shutting his eyes as tears threatened to fall. Shit, shit, this was a bad idea, a terrible idea. What was he thinking? Mike was right. What was wrong with him? “I- I’m sorry, I-”
“You’re sorry? Will, you can’t seriously think I’m just going to-”
“77 Indigo Street. Meet me at 8,” Will interrupted, the words spilling out before he could chicken out. “I’m sorry. Love you.” And then he slammed the phone back down with so much force the entire booth rattled. Though not exactly how he planned, there. It was done.
---
After leaving Hawkins and refusing to look back, Will decides it's finally time to reconnect with the person who would always have his heart.

He inches a little closer. "Do you- do you think we'll ever spend another October first together?" he asks softly.
"Of course we will," Mike answers eagerly. "Seriously, Will. We're best friends and that's not just going to change or any-"
"No," Will gently interrupts, and the next part he says is almost too soft to hear. "That's not what I meant."
"Oh," Mike breathes. "Right."

Summary
Suddenly, his watch beeps. Great, another hour has past. Does that make it five? Has he really been in here for five hours? Jeez, no wonder his lungs feel so tight and his stomach is rumbling. At least there's water down here. He doesn't open his eyes as his watch reaches the last beep.
"Happy birthday."
His eyes shoot open as they land on the boy beside him who is yawning and rubbing at his eyes. "What?"
Mike turns slightly, gesturing to his watch before leaning the side of his head against the wall to look at Will. "It's midnight. That means it's officially your birthday."

Summary
The party decides to get drunk and Mike takes it too far. With tension between him and Will, awkwardness with Eleven, and a terrible secret, the night just keeps getting worse and worse for Mike until eventually, he can no longer take the truth.
---
Will's eyes grow wide and now he really looks like he's on the verge of a panic attack. "What do you mean? I kissed Amanda." Again he bites his lip and Mike's frustration grows.
Mike knows he should stop but there seems to be a disconnect between his mind and his mouth. "Stop lying Will. I don't even know any of your Californian friends. I don't even understand why you would lie about the name. Did you kiss a boy or something?" Mike rolls his eyes. It really was a ridiculous thing to lie about the name of the girl you kissed. Honestly, what was up with Will.
Will's expression breaks, but he turns before Mike can fully see it. Mike can however see the way his body is shaking.
"Are you cold?" Mike asks softly, taking a step forward. "Come back to the basement, I can get you my sweater."

Summary
The first Halloween at their first house, Will and Mike meet a kid who may or may not remind them of themselves while passing out candy on their porch.
--
The third boy started to head up just as excited as the first two before he looked back at the fourth who hadn't moved. He tilted his head at his friend who looked really nervous and was shaking his head slightly, looking at Mike and Will before whipping his eyes away and looking at the ground.
"Come on," his best friend said. "What's wrong?"
The boy looked at him with furrowed eyebrows, biting his lip. "I'm not allowed to," he mutters, looking again at Mike and Will so fast Will's surprised he even caught in the first place.

Summary
Will shot him another smile. “Of course I’m going to miss you. Are you going to miss me?”
Mike wanted Will closer, the contact of their two hands wasn’t enough. He needed to pull him close and never let him go. “Obviously. Just wait, I’m going to call you so much you’ll get sick of me. I’m going to cost you so much money in long distance phone calls, you’re going to have to cut the wire to stop me.”
Will laughed and the sound rang like a song through Mike’s ears. Of all people's laughs, Will’s was his favorite. Dustin’s was too funny sounding, Lucas’ was too shrill. Eleven’s was just… too normal. But Will, Will’s laugh was perfect.
“I’m holding you to that,” Will answered.

Summary
“You’re back,” Mike states as his wide eyes catch Will’s.
Will just tilts his head at him as he takes his seat. “Yeah, I said I would be.”
“Right, obviously,” Mike mutters before stabbing his chicken sandwich with his toothpick.
“What?” Will asks despite every inkling in his body telling him to drop this conversation and just pick up his burger. “Did you think I was just going to leave?”
“No, I-”
“Because I wouldn’t just…” Will cuts himself off before he can finish and looks down at his plate instead, the unsaid words resting bitter on his tongue. I wouldn’t just leave with no explanation. Not like you did.
