Summary
Steven is raised more in touch with his human self. The timeline diverges at Three Gems and a Baby, where the gems and Greg decide to try and give Steven a normal upbringing.
Steven knows almost nothing about the gems, even less than he does at the beginning of the series. But as he grows, his powers begin to activate forcing him into a life that his caretakers tried so hard to keep him out of for as long as they could. -

“And I wonder why that is.” Ashido rolls her eyes.
“I’m just curious!” Kaminari whines. Kirishima drags the box out, unlabeled and unassuming, the lid not even fully clasped over the edges. “The guy has to— Whoa, what’s that?”
Kirishima realizes a little belatedly that this is a serious breach of privacy, and Bakugou will actually murder all of them. “Nothing!” he cries, attempting to shove it back under the bed, but Ashido snatches it away.
“Please be his porn stash!” Kaminari whispers as she whips the lid off.

“You did not mishear me, Princess Amber,” the advisor says. “It is indeed Prince James’ name that is on the succession document, and as such, it is his coronation that we shall be planning.”
James can feel the moment something inside Amber shatters. Maybe it’s the way her eyes go blank and glassy, or the way she drops her fan and doesn’t even bend to pick it up, maybe it’s the fact that they’ve known each other their whole lives, and James is intimately familiar with what his sister looks like when she’s furious. But most likely, it’s the fact that he feels the same exact shrapnel shoot through his chest that she does; a hailstorm of cuts, each a different emotion, among them mourning, fury, and an overwhelming confusion.
Or, a miscommunication over succession following King Roland's death causes turmoil between the three royal siblings of Enchancia.
