El's frown deepens. "I guess," she says, because she supposes she could see it- there had been a split second, right before Max spoken up, where she'd expected something else to happen, although she hadn't exactly been sure what. "They are friends, though."
"That's what they all say," Max hums.
Every time El thinks she has this society thing figured out, someone throws her for a loop.

God I love this. Sadly I'm drunk and sad right now where I want this but it's honestly so fucking beautiful and domestic. The few fights they have are resolved a scene or two later so no real angst. Also waverly calls Nicole Nicky which I'm so fucking weak for.
