    I cleaned up the small mess from dinner, then sat in my chair with a book. I always loved evenings like this. Sitting down with a good book, the rain beginning to fall on the roof and tap on the windows, the soft crackle of the fire. It was quiet, domestic.

    I suppose I got lost in my reading, as I didn’t hear the rain become stronger until I heard the sound of heavy pacing from upstairs. I frowned. What could that man be doing now?
