The night flows, and even though John is tired as fuck – he spent the day with his son, helping him with football training – he feels that pleasant buzz of energy.
It’s around midnight when that kid walks in, dragging a duffel and looking like he hasn’t slept for days. Tall but built like a scarecrow, clothes a size too big, hanging off his body. John isn’t sure he’s legal. He doesn’t care that much – has work to do – but when the kid props himself on a bar stool and raises a slender hand, John walks to him and says firmly, “We don’t serve alcohol to minors.”

Peter’s alarm started blaring, which was his sign to wake up. He groaned as he rolled over, turning off the alarm and looking at the time. It was 6:30 AM. His days of going to sleep at 3:00 AM and sleeping in till noon were over now that school was starting.
In an alternate universe without superpowers, the Avengers & co. are working through the complicated balance of the social and academic life of high school. For some, this life is just beginning, and for others, it's coming to a close.

But some habits were harder to ignore. Like the bruises.
They weren’t training injuries. John knew the difference. These weren’t the deep gashes and clean breaks they got while boxing or wrestling each other. These were small. Random. Sharp scratches across his arms. Purple-yellow marks blooming along his ribs. Sometimes John would catch a fresh red line down the inside of Bob’s wrist if he lifted his arm slightly, like it hadn’t finished healing yet. John noticed. He always noticed.
He wasn’t supposed to care this much. He wasn’t supposed to lie awake at night thinking about it, wondering if Bob was okay, wondering if he should say something. But John wasn’t sleeping. Not well. Not since the third night in a row he saw Bob flinch when someone touched his shoulder too suddenly.
It bothered him. It ate at him.
Or Bob sleepwalks and is scaring John.
