“Are these from our garden?" Aziraphale asks, glancing up from his plate. “The peas, I mean. Though the sauce is good, too.”
Seated right beside him at their table, Crowley turns and lifts an eyebrow. “Yeah. From those seeds we planted when we moved in. Picked ‘em just this morning.”
Fresh vegetables, mixed with savory spices, mixed with… something else. Something rich, and sweet, and strong, and shockingly, soothingly familiar. Something that fills his chest at least as much as it does his stomach.

It’s not so bad, everything tasting like dust, once you get used to it.
Having had six thousand years to get used to it, Crowley doesn’t really mind anymore. He does still enjoy eating, from time to time; even without flavor, after all, he can still appreciate good textures and smells, and there’s something satisfying about the feeling of a full stomach. Besides, eating is a useful social activity to have at your disposal when your best friend is a veritable gastronome.
He’s never eaten Aziraphale’s cooking before, though.

Summary
What looked like a momentary lapse to Aziraphale, was actually Crowley’s brain moving so quickly through six millennia of forbidden thoughts, desires, impulses, and passions, all hidden away so deeply that the moment he scratched the surface with thinking it could actually be a possibility, they flooded his mind and left his corporation static, wide-eyed, and unable to do more than hum incoherently to the angel.
“Mhm,” he said again.
“My dear, are you alright?” Aziraphale’s previously flirty tone changed to one of concern.
