It only takes three weeks for the other shoe to drop. Eddie’s been waiting for it patiently, the expectation of it sitting in the back of his mind every day since they somehow managed to save the fucking world. Government agencies, resurrected chiefs of police, a little bald girl with magical powers, ya know, just your typical superhero shit, that he was now a part of whether he liked it or not. He likes it, don’t get him wrong, it’s just also pretty goddamn nerve wracking to be part of a group of people as tight knit as this after spending years and years as the town pariah.

A sob, and then another. A sound he'd recognize anywhere, because Ed knows the sound of horror well, and Ed knows what Stede sounds like -would find him anywhere, would pick out his sobs in a room full of crying, wailing English noblemen.
Ed zeroes in on the sound. His lungs constrict with visceral, primal fear.
