Then again, softer, their lips sliding together in a way that was everything Henry had been desperate for and too terrified to admit. Alex’s hands were warm on his jaw, fingers brushing up into his hair, and for a moment all Henry could do was lean into him and feel everything, want, relief, terror, dizzy happiness, crash together at once.

That the effort he’s put into maintaining his intelligence over the years has been worth it because this time, he can be better.
But, he finds nothing.
It’s empty. Blank. Scattered and useless.
Alex looks down at his lap, at his legs hidden by starchy white bed sheets. “I don’t understand,” he whispers, tearfully. “I don’t remember. Why can’t I remember?”
