Summary
Giyuu's anger wasn't enough to do anything with, not anymore. He'd burned himself out at such a young age. All that was left was ash.
Genya seemed like him. His anger was fear, a shield he used. It wasn't his core like his brother and the other hashira who had tried to help him.
Maybe, just maybe, that would be enough for Giyuu to make a difference where they hadn't.
Or: Genya becomes Giyuu's tsugoku. Sanemi does not approve.

He remembers flames raging around his childhood home, the taste of ashes on the wind.
He remembers his mother's soft hands around his head, lulling him to the sweet sleep of death.
(She'd never done that when he was a child; that was left to the maids and nannies)
He wakes up, and he sees the world through his own hazel eyes.

In another reality, Tomioka Giyuu is a little older. He's known to be quite enigmatic, covering his face with a warding fox mask and rarely taking it off of his face. In a twist of fate, Giyuu saved Sabito from his death by the hand of a demon who killed his father. Inspired by the Water Pillar, Sabito decided to be a demon slayer. He then becomes Tomioka Giyuu's tsuguko.
