    Summary

“You’re doing it again,” Bruce says, tone accusatory. “You’re faking.”

“It’s not faking,” Dick snaps, a little more aggressive than he means to be. But he doesn’t like that word, doesn’t like the connotations.

(Especially when he knows Bruce is lying about something, too.)

    “Then what is it?”

“It’s called being charming and it’s nice.”

    -_-

Dick’s mother raised her son to be a star. Dick’s father raised his son to be an athlete.

Bruce's new ward is charming (manipulative), dedicated (obsessive), and way, way too smart for either of their own good.

    Summary

Bruce doesn’t know what’s wrong with his child, but he’s pretty sure kids aren’t meant to work like this.

From the day he had looked up into the tops of the circus tent and saw a frightened mirror image of a boy who had just experienced the worst day of his life, Bruce had instantly gone into emergency mode.

The Gotham PD had wanted to pass the boy off into the care of the circus. The circus had mumbled underneath their breaths about superstitions, about not having a boy like that with them, about not being able to handle something like Dick. So GCPD, not knowing what to do, had started talking about one of the handful of overburdened boy homes that handles a majority of Gotham’s unlucky orphans.

All the while, the camera lights flash bright and loud, wanting to know everything.

    Bruce couldn’t let that happen.

    Not then, not ever again.

    -🦇-

Bruce is trying his best to protect the city that he loves. He doesn't know how exactly his Robins came to be- they're not fully human, not even at all. All he knows is that he wants to keep them safe.

    Summary

At first, Alfred had not been surprised when school materials kept ending up in the manor’s mail. Many of them were still addressed to the Waynes, who had been dead for less than four months.

But this one was addressed, in crisp penmanship, to “Bruce Wayne c/o Mr. Alfred Pennyworth.”

The problem was that Bruce Wayne was no longer “in care of” Alfred. Bruce was with his uncle. A plan which everyone (except Bruce and the Waynes’ will) had agreed was for the best.

    Summary

The fronds of the potted bush he’d taken refuge next to tickled the side of his wrist as he batted it away for the umpteenth time. He glanced down at it, bored, watching the leaves bend and bob—

There was kid in the potted plant.

Now, Dick had found kids in stranger places, but that usually happened when he was in the suit. Robin helped pull kids out of chimneys, chipped them free of ice, heck, even seen one floating away while tied to a giant balloon shaped like a question mark. He didn’t even want to contemplate the trauma that poor kid was probably experiencing to this day.

But as plain old Dick Grayson? Nope.

(It might not be a cabbage patch, but if one finds a kid under a leaf, does the rule of dibs apply? Dick Grayson would like to know)

    Summary

Tim really thought Mr. Wayne’s party was going to be more exciting.

His parents always make such a big deal about going to galas. They take time off work to get ready, dress up all nice in their fancy clothes, and quiz each other on the names and personal details of all the other guests who are coming so that they can do their networking.

(Tim has learned that ‘networking’ means drinking champagne with important people and laughing at all of their jokes, even when they’re not funny.)

Or, in which six-year-old Timothy Drake attends his first gala, tries stuffed mushrooms, gets some first-hand experience with the Heimlich maneuver, and expands his social network, not necessarily in that order.
