Summary
Richie and Eddie have a rhythm. Their friendship just makes sense. Richie would tease Eddie and annoy the fuck out of him, and then Eddie would get mad and go on one of his adorable rants, and then they would both secretly love their daily routine of bickering, and then they would restart the cycle. Neither of them would ever admit that they love it, though. The serious part of their friendship just went unsaid. Mainly because Richie couldn't risk looking Eddie in the eye and telling him how much he cares about him without also revealing that he's, uh, in love with him.

Summary
As the semester had gone on, Richie had continued to pine for this unknown guy from a distance. He was always too nervous to actually do anything. But for some reason, today was different. Richie had finally convinced himself that it doesn't matter if he gets rejected because he doesn't actually know the guy, so it won't change anything.
Also, he was getting tired of Bev's teasing. She would not relent, always making fun of how Richie was always the loudest in the room until that guy walked through the door.

As it stood, Eddie knew exactly what sort of person he was. He was a shitty, neurotic, repressed as all hell pretentious asshat, and he made every single decision every single day of his life based off of that knowledge. Sure, deciding to get screwed was a weird - but perhaps inevitable - lapse, but he thought he’d chosen the person to screw him quite well. Some average sort of guy on a dating app; no connection, no prospect, no chance in hell of ever having to see him again aside from weird eye contact at an H-E-B seven months after they’d had mind-blowingly average sex.
But Richie fucked all that up about as thoroughly as he fucked Eddie himself. Which, as he thought about as much as he tried to avoid thinking about, was very thoroughly.

“I can’t go to Europe,” Mike says, like ripping off a bandaid.
Richie momentarily considers dropping his phone in the tub to kill it, and then he remembers that it is 2017 and phones are like, waterproof now. Steve Jobs might be dead, but Richie curses him regardless.
“What the fuck, man?” he says, a little too high pitched. “Is it you Bill is divorcing? Are you his lawyer? How are these two related in any way? You can’t just—”
“Bill needs me, Richie.” Mike’s voice is gentle but firm, like that makes any sense.
“Dude, what am I going to do for 3 months? I’ve got no gigs coming up, no media appearances. Everything's on hold.”
A pause. Then Mike says, “What are you talking about, man? Eddie is still going.”
